Begonia Town: A Modern Interpretation of Ancient Chinese Landscapes

S.U.N and Hongtao Sun's Award-Winning Sales Center Design

The design team, led by Hongtao Sun, drew inspiration from the major elements of traditional Chinese landscape paintings: mountains, rivers, and birds. These elements were incorporated into the design of Begonia Town, creating a unique and culturally rich environment. The team's aim was to spread Chinese traditional culture to the world, presenting it in a new and innovative way.

The unique properties of the design lie in its fusion of traditional and modern elements. The designers used modern materials such as art glass and Ariston tile to depict the flexibility of birds and the beauty of landscape paintings. This innovative approach to design earned Begonia Town the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018.

The realization of the design was a complex process. The space, located in Jiangning District, Nanjing, was designed with Ariston tile to represent rolling mountains, and glass was used to create bird shapes. The main color scheme of the space is black and white, and the major materials used include Ariston tile, wood, metal, art glass, and marble.

Despite the challenges faced during the design process, such as combining traditional and modern cultures and creating flexible bird lamps from glass, the team managed to overcome these obstacles. The result is a space that not only serves its function as a sales center but also stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Nanjing.
